Why veterans compare

VGLI is a great safety net. It's not always the best long-term value.

VGLI rates are the same for everyone at a given age, regardless of health or tobacco use. That helps if you have health conditions. If you're healthy, private coverage may cost less, and the price stays locked as you age.

VGLI cost over time

$40 → $425 a month

VA's published monthly rate for $500,000 of VGLI at ages 30–34, compared with ages 60–64 (rates as of July 1, 2025).

VALife limits

Up to $40,000

Guaranteed acceptance for eligible veterans, but full coverage starts only after a 2-year waiting period.

Private options

Locked rates + living benefits

Level premiums plus riders that can pay you after a qualifying critical, chronic or terminal illness.

Who we help

Coverage for every stage after service

Recently separated

You have 240 days to get VGLI with no health questions. We'll help you compare before that window closes so you don't lose options.

Veterans with VGLI

Paying more each time you hit a new age band? We'll show you whether a private plan could lock in a lower rate.

Veterans with a VA rating

A disability rating doesn't automatically rule you out. Carriers view conditions differently, and shopping the market is how we find the best fit.

Veteran homeowners

Using a VA loan? Mortgage protection can make sure your family keeps the home if something happens to you.

Military spouses & families

Spouse coverage under SGLI is limited. We help spouses get coverage of their own that stays in place no matter what.

Older veterans

Final expense coverage with no medical exam can cover funeral costs, with level premiums that never increase.

Veterans life insurance FAQ

Can I keep VGLI and buy private coverage too?

Yes. Many veterans keep VGLI or VALife and add private coverage on top. We'll help you decide what combination makes sense for your budget and goals.

How long do I have to sign up for VGLI?

You can apply within 1 year and 120 days after leaving service. If you apply within 240 days, there's no health review. After that, you'll need to show you're in good health.

Will my VA disability rating affect private coverage?

It can, depending on the condition. Every carrier underwrites differently, and some offer simplified or no-exam plans. Shopping multiple carriers is how we find the best option for you.

What is VALife?

VALife is VA's guaranteed-acceptance whole life insurance for veterans with a service-connected disability rating. It offers up to $40,000 of coverage, with the full benefit starting after a 2-year waiting period.

Do you work for the VA?

No. We're an independent insurance agency and aren't affiliated with or endorsed by the VA or any government agency. We help you understand your VA options and compare them with private coverage.
